January 13, 2023: Zhanna Dryga on “The Politics of Evacuation”

Sunflower Care is a volunteer group that helps disabled, chronically ill and neurodivergent children and their carers leave Ukraine if they wish, assists in relocation and finding accommodation that meets their needs. Zhanna is one of the co-founders of Sunflower Care e.V. In her presentation, Zhanna talked about her activist and artist work, especially a series of paintings dedicated to the war unleashed by the Russian Federation in Ukraine and her forced displacement from the perspective of a neurodivergent person and a mother. 

Zhanna Dryga is a Ukrainian artist and activist, born in Odesa (Ukraine) and living in Munich (Germany) since 2016. Her paintings are held in private collections in Ukraine, Germany, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Liechtenstein, USA, Thailand, China and Russia. 

 In her art Zhanna tries to visualize comprehension and rethinking of personal emotions, reflections and sensations, for instance her feelings of anxiety and premonitions of war and forced displacement. Since 2014, Zhanna has been working on a series of paintings about the russian military invasion in Ukraine.
