Kenyan jurist, disability rights activist, and international sports leader Stanley Mutuma is participating in a weeklong residency at the Guggenheim New York in connection with the exhibition Taryn Simon: Father Country I Do Love You, which opens on September 18, 2026.
As part of this residency, the NYU Center for Disability Studies is delighted to co-host a roundtable conversation featuring Mutuma and NYU Adaptive Sports Co-Presidents, Denis McGrath (NYU Law) and Honor Culpepper (NYU Law).
Moderated by Karen Bergman (Assistant Director of Interpretation and Access, Guggenheim Museum), Mara Mills (CDS Director and Associate Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication), and Chitra Ramalingam (Director of Learning, Guggenheim Museum).

Speaker Bios
Stanley Mutuma is a Kenyan jurist, disability rights activist, and international sports leader. He serves in the Judiciary of Kenya, working closely with the National Council for Law Reporting as a legal scholar and contributor to The Bench Bulletin. He has represented the Kenyan government at the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at the United Nations headquarters in New York, and provides strategic leadership to Kenya’s Paralympic movement as Secretary General of the Kenya National Paralympic Committee.
Denis McGrath is a student at NYU Law and Co-President of NYU Adaptive Sports. He graduated from the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. At Michigan, he was part of the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD Advisory Board) and was one of the first athletes to join the University’s Adaptive Sports program, which is one of the leading collegiate adaptive sports programs in the country. Some of Denis’s recent athletic accomplishments include 1st place at the 2024 USA Paralympic Cycling Trials, 2nd in the 2025 ParaCycling National Time Trials, and 3rd in the 2026 National Road Race and Time Trials. He represented Canada as goalkeeper at the 2022 Paralympic Soccer World Cup. At NYU Law, Denis has co-chaired the Disability Allied Law Students Association and served on the Student Bar Association as Accessibility Chair.
Honor Culpepper is a student at NYU Law and Co-President of NYU Adaptive Sports. She attended NYU as a student-athlete, earning her degree in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication. Previously, Honor trained as a journalist and helped lead NYU’s Women’s Basketball team to a national championship in 2024. At NYU Law, she serves as the Executive Editor of the Journal of Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law, and the Captain of NYU Law’s Dean’s Cup basketball team.
