Radical Visibility: Sky Cubacub of Rebirth Garments
December 4, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

**Venue update: 16 Cooper Square, Studio, Center for Ballet and the Arts**
PERFORMANCE followed by DISCUSSION facilitated by Prof. Kevin Gotkin, NYU MCC & DANT
Instead of a typical stoic runway, Rebirth Garments hosts fashion performances that feature local models of all sizes and ages who identify as Queer and/ or Crip including apparent and non-apparent disabilities/ disorders all dancing in custom garments designed specifically to serve their physical and social needs. Through dancing, models show how the garments help them move in a way that shows off their true selves. At the end of the performance we invite the audience to come join us, changing the landscape of what we think of as a fashion show and transforming the event from a spectacle to an academic event, club event, and lesson on radical inclusion.
After the fashion performance Sky will give verbal descriptions of each of the outfits. They will then have a conversation with Kevin Gotkin on stage. Questions from the audience are highly encouraged! The audience should feel free to come and go as they want.
CART provided.

Sky Cubacub is a non-binary queer and disabled Filipinx human from Chicago, IL. Their clothing line, Rebirth Garments, challenges mainstream beauty standards through centering queer and disabled people of all sizes, ethnicities and ages. They maintain the notion of Radical Visibility, a celebratory resistance, highlighting the parts of us that society typically shuns, a movement based on claiming our bodies; through the use of bright colors, exuberant fabrics and innovative designs, they refuse to assimilate and are spearheading a Queer and Disabled dress reform movement.
