Wednesday, February 4, 2026, 5 – 6:30pm ET, in-person at Kimmel Center for University Life 905/907.

Join us as part of NYU’s 21st MLK Week in exploring the connections and shared history between the Civil Rights Movement and the Disability Rights Movement. These pivotal movements were founded on innovative strategies, legal precedents, and moral arguments, all of which contributed to progress. This event is hosted by the Moses Center for Accessibility and Inclusive Culture and the Center for Disability Studies. Dinner will be provided.

Alongside student facilitators, we will learn about the legislative ripple effect, from landmark acts like the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to the eventual passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990, and highlight pivotal actions that secured rights and recognition. This interactive session is open to all NYU community members with an interest in deepening their understanding of the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement and its influence on the Disability Rights Movement.
