April 3, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

A black and white film still of disability activist and actor Mat Fraser.

Code of the Freaks (Salome Chasnoff, 2020, 68 min.)

Taking its title from Tod Browning’s classic film, this radical reframing of how characters with disabilities are represented looks at a century of Hollywood favorites with a fresh perspective. Disability activists imagine a cinematic landscape that takes people with disabilities seriously.

Post-screening discussion with director Salome Chasnoff; writer Alyson Patsavas; cinematographer and editor Jerzy Rose; and disability activist Lawrence Carter-Long.

In collaboration with ReelAbilities Film Festival: New York, a showcase of award-winning films by and about people with disabilities.

RSVP

Co-Sponsors: Center for Media, Culture & History, NYU, and NYU Department of Cinema Studies
