SUMMARY:Book Presentation\, Crip Authorship: Disability As Method
DESCRIPTION:Crip Authorship: Disability as Method\n\nA book presentation with the International Center for Finer Arts Kampnagel\n\nFriday\, 12th May at 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm (ET) / 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm (CET)\n  \n  \nFrom Thursday to Sunday this week\, the International Center for Finer Arts Kampnagel\, in Hamburg (Germany) is presenting the first Performative Book Fair ever! The event is questioning exclusionary mechanisms of the literary production in a capitalist and violent system\, and exploring aesthetics and political potential of speculative fiction\, storytelling and revolutionary writing\, through interventions\, installations\, networking spaces\, panel discussions and lectures with artists\, authors\, publishers\, activists and researchers.\n\n  \nIn the frame of this book fair\, Kampnagel has invited editors Mara Mills and Rebecca Sánchez to collaborate in an online event to present the publication “Crip Authorship – Disability as Method” (forthcoming in July from NYU Press). This expansive volume presents the multidisciplinary methods brought into being by disability studies and activism. Starting from the premise that disability is plural and authorship spans composition\, affect\, and publishing\, this collection of thirty-five compact essays asks how knowledge about disability is produced and shared in disability studies. Three of the volume’s authors will share excerpts from their chapters:\n\n  \nAlison Kafer (University of Texas\, Austin)\, “Manifesting Manifestos”\nTeresa Blankmeyer Burke (Gallaudet University)\, “ASL Books and Chirocentric Publication”\nJen Deerinwater (Cherokee Nation\, Crushing Colonialism)\, “Crip Indigenous Storytelling Across the Digital Divide”\nMara Mills and Rebecca Sánchez will moderate the event.\n  \nZOOM LINK HERE\n  \n  \n\nEvent is free and open to the public\nThe event will take place in English and ASL\, with live captions in English and live interpretation to German\nIf you require captioning and ASL simultaneously\, we recommend using a laptop or desktop computer\, and not a tablet or smartphone\nPlease email accessibility needs related to this event to msf440@nyu.edu\n\n  \n  \n\nPROGRAM FOR BOOKFAIR\nThe book fair is curated by Pajam Masoumi and Alina Buchberger
