SUMMARY:Disability as Method: Impairment\, Access Friction\, and Collaboration—a roundtable with Bernd Oppl\, Georgina Kleege\, and Mara Mills
DESCRIPTION:Note: This event is organized by O–Overgaden. Please visit their event page for more information or support. \n \n\n\n\n\nWhat happens when the gaze becomes audible? And what emerges when experiences of visual impairment open up new ways of experiencing art? \n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us to launch the opening of the group exhibition IN PROTEST AND IN CARE with a talk bringing together artist Bernd Oppl and scholars Georgina Kleege and Mara Mills for a conversation about disability-as-method and how visual impairment can shape both the making and experiencing of art. It is also possible to participate online. \nThe conversation takes as its starting point Bernd Oppl’s work with eye tracking\, where eye movements become sound\, noise\, and interference. The speakers will explore how differences in vision and perception can open up new ways of thinking about art\, communication\, and access. \nHow can we consider and redefine access as a collaborative process with the potential to create new aesthetic possibilities and experiences for everyone? What can emerge when different ways of sensing and experiencing are not simply accommodated\, but actively allowed to shape an artwork and the way we experience it? \nThe event will be held in English. The bar will be open\, offering beer and alcohol-free beverages. \nEntry to the talk is free\, as is admission to all of O—Overgaden’s exhibitions. \nFor participation online find the Zoom link here: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/76763866829?pwd=JtwERaAksMFOaRoKlRma1cIs4geiyE.1 \n\n\n\n\n\nAccessibility:\n\n\n\n\nThe event takes place on the ground floor. There is a 15cm step between the entrance hall and the exhibition spaces\, with a mobile ramp available upon request. O—Overgaden has a manual wheelchair available and a stair climber for access from street level. \nIf you require assistance entering the building\, please contact us before your visit by e-mail at overgaden@overgaden.org or by phone on +45 32 57 72 73\, so we can coordinate for a member of staff to assist you in entering the building and make your visit as easy and comfortable as possible.
